From the Prez....

Wow, how time flies. It seems just yesterday that we were getting ready to run the April Fools Rally and now we're on the home stretch to Labor Day! This summer has been a great, fun filled summer of fantastic Corvette activities and definitely one for the record books for the number of events. As of the writing of this email, there's still 33 events on the region calendar, so there's no shortage of things to keep your weekends occupied.

Great job to all who worked to make our car show one of the best car shows that you'll ever attend. There were no shortage of comments about how well it went!

Our next event for Tim's Challenge is the Sno Big Deal event, and I hope that you'll all come help put that one together. It's a blast for all involved and you'll definitely be putting your time toward a great cause.

See you all soon!

John Maxwell
President, DtRC

Miscellaneous ramblings from the Editor:

I must say what an incredible little group we have. In the last 6 weeks, we've put on a great auto-x, put on a great car show and turned out 2/3rds of the club to a car show 200 + miles away. No other club I know of can pull off such feats and do it with such gusto!

How do we do it you might ask? Well, the answer is actually quite simple - contagous enthusiasm! I was reminded of this as we sat around the conference room at the hotel Friday night. I haven't laughed that hard since the Holiday Inn in Bowling Green last September when a similar group was assembled there. When we get together, even other people around us are drawn in and have a great time!

I do think that one of us pushed our luck just a little too hard and had their efforts backfire on them a bit. Someone kept insisting that it was Wanda's birthday (her actual birthday - just in case you are curious - is May 1st). To celebrate her "birthday" another member decided to get a shotski. Now I'd never heard of a shotski, but you can watch the video at: Wanda goes wild - part deux - check it out. Somehow, I don't think this is the celebration that was intended, but everyone else had a darned good time with it.

It's the time of year for office nominations. New energy is always a good thing and I encourage everyone who even remotely thinks they have a talent to offer the club to step up and give it a go. The one thing I can say for certain is that you will never fail when you are in the company of this marvelous group of people that comprise Down the Road Corvettes. Toss you hat in the ring, you might just like it!

Always remember - SAVE THE WAVE!

Tim

DtRC Car Show

By Tim Barnes

Wow, what can I say! The members of DtRC did yet another outstanding job!

We had a great turn out for the event with more than 50 cars participating. As has been the case with many of our past shows, people who have never taken home an award before, took one home from our show. Jay's, our sponsor, did another outstanding job supporting the show with breakfast and drink specials all day long and everyone was highly complimentary of their efforts.

The raffle also raised $181.00 for Tim's Challenge bringing the Tim's Challenge balance to almost $800.00.

I can't thank all of the club members that helped with the show enough. Your efforts to make our paricipants feel appreciated paid off as I heard nothing but compliments from everyone I spoke to during the show. This might help explain why participation at our show was up this year when a vast majority of shows have been down this year.

Gunnison Car Show

By Tim Barnes

I can now understand why the members that attended this show last year came back with such great enthusiasm. The show was a blast!

As Bill pointed out in his email to the club, DtRC turned out 14 cars and 26 people for the show! Can you believe that? 26 out of 36 members made the beautiful drive down to Gunnison and no one that I know of even got a ticket! The weather was fabulous inspite of the way I'm told it was earlier in the week. The members of the Gunnison Car Club made us all feel welcome and were very pleased that we all came out to support Will Cooksey.

As you may know, the Gunnison club is permitted to give out the Lee Iacocca award to people who have made a difference in not only the automible hobby, but also to the communutity. No one is more deserving of the award than Will. I wasn't aware of everything that Will contributed to Corvette until he gave a talk about his time as the manager of the Corvette Assembly Plant. We have all benefitted greatly from Will's efforts to turn Corvette from a mass produced Chevrolet into a world class sports car. As part of the awards, Will also signed cars and posters to help raise funds for the Lee Iacocca Foundation the supports the fight against Type II Diabetes.

Did I mention that our club's efforts were rewarded as well? Both Richard and Mike Malouf managed to bring home hardware out of a field of over 100 Corvettes in three classes. You have no idea what kind of a feat this was unless you saw the competition they were up against. There were over 300 cars of all kinds in attendance and all of them were special.

This is definitely a show that deserves the support of our club in future years.

Committee Updates

Social Committee

From the Social Committee

Don't forget about the mystery meal on August 28th! We'll meet between 9:30 & 10:00 at the Outback (I-70 - Colfax - Indiana). Leave promptly at 10:00. The drive is roughly an hour & a half (quicker driving home unless you stop to gamble - no, we're not eating in Central City/Blackhawk).

Governor's Report

By Nancy B.

Hi Everyone,

Summer is quickly wrapping up, a few of the trees are starting to change up here in North Dakota even though it is going to be 101 degrees today. On the way up we did see a caravan of about 5 Corvettes and thought of all of you headed to Gunnison - I'm hoping to read your stories in this copy of the newsletter - you are sending them in right - since we couldn't be there.

NCCC stuff - events pretty much every weekend. A couple new events recently on the calendar - Torca is going have 2 autocrosses at the mall in Longmont on 9/19. The LaJunta DCA flyer is posted - there are high speeds and low speeds that weekend. High Speeds on Saturday. Remember that you need a high speed license from the RCD before you can participate in a high speed. That can be obtained after you do 10 low speeds or a certified driving school. There are 5 low speeds in the region coming up before then - 3 in Wyoming Labor Day weekend during their annual "Roundup". This year I think you can register for their events separately and not have to go to the whole thing. And then the two that Torca is having.

Regional officer nominations are open. The first nominations are due right about now and then I believe they need to be open for another meetings worth. If anyone is interested in any of the positions - please let me know.

The regional website is updated for standings, event results and flyers for the next several months. If you are looking for something to do or curious as to who is out there at the regional events - check it out at www.rmrnccc.org.

Safe travels to all, hope to see you soon.
