Miscellaneous ramblings from the President

lWell, July 2012 is history. Time is going too fast this year. It seems that the season just began. We had a busy July and first week of August!

As usual, Dave and Nancy Burritt did a tremendous job putting the Auto  X together. I can’t thank them and John Maxwell enough for making things run perfect.  We also had several members give up their Saturday and Sunday to help pull this thing off(some of us got stuck with a broom-------AGAIN.) I want a special mention to go out to the Arkos. Even though these guys are no longer members of DTRC on paper, they are still outstanding members at heart. Frank, Nancy and Jason all gave up their busy weekend to help us put the race on. It was a very strange but welcome experience to be sitting at a check point and hearing them on the radio. I found it kind of fun to see quite a few metal cars show up. Several Shelby GT 500s were there and did a great job. Sitting at my vantage point although they looked and sounded good, they are not Corvettes.

We had a Mystery??? Meal in July by Dave Cooper???? After a great 2 hour drive, we ended up at a surprise birthday party for Shoe. He said it was a surprise but I don’t know, when you get his age (as I may learn in several years) you just sense a birthday party. Good Job Jani and Dave. Oh, Dave got an early gift from the Morrison police dept. I believe the offer was named Barney.

Mike and Mary hosted the August mystery meal. We had 10 cars attend. Now when you tell people that we went to Rawlins Wyo they go “OOOOOHHHHH”. But it really was a good time! The 10 cars were pretty impressive going down the highway. We visited and toured Mikes “roots” while there. (I let you guess which Mike). When you tour an OLD state prison you realize how things have changed in our prison system. Some things have changed for the worse. No electricity for many years. No hot water until the late 70s etc. I found it strange that they had steam heat but no domestic hot water. Perhaps cold showers kept the prisoners in line? Anyway  good job Mike and Mary! Oh, we also toured the City of Rawlins and every street in it a time or two. No more “Chief Red feather” .

We have a busy August coming up. Next week, the 17th and 18th is Gunnison, this is always a good time. Cathy and I can’t make it this year. Then the 23rd several of us are headed to Pagosa springs for a few days for the CSCC rally and show. Dave and Wanda will meet us there.  I think some are headed to the Grand lake show by CCC. This is always a good one.  Where ever you are going be safe and let us know how things went. Anyone is encouraged to write an article for the newsletter about the event they attend.

Oh, I don’t want to forget to tell you that we had a small birthday party for Jani (we did not want to leave her out after Mikes surprise) at Brunos. We had a fantastic dinner and many members and friends showed up.
Thanks all, have a good month of August. We will see you “down the road”.

Bill

From the Editor:

The DtRC Autocross was a lot of fun not only for ourselves but all the participants from other clubs and metal cars too.. Thank you for letting my son, Joshua, race his BMW around the track. He had a great time and can't wait for the next one. He also helped me out in getting my time just a little bit better. Honestly I may have had a faster speed but on one corner he did a "Oh my god...." so mom slowed it down a bit not to scare him.

Be sure to post you photos from any events you attend and be sure to mention any trophies or special honors too on our facebook page.

Thank you Mike and Mary Davis for a wonderful mystery meal trip. They gave us a lot of hints and would buy lunch for anyone that guessed what we were visiting but no one guessed a prison. Maybe you have a special place to eat or visit and could lead the next mystery meal?

Be sure to get your room reservered at the Pagosa Lodge for the Rallye and Car Show in Pagosa Springs on Aug. 25th. We will leave on Friday Aug. 24th and return on Sunday Aug 26th. We currently have four couples planning this trip.

Upcoming events and a calendar have been included in each newsletter. Just let me know if you have anything else to add to our list of ideas.

Our monthly snack list has also been added to the newsletter with each member's name that is bringing snacks this month.

We sold our C5 White Corvette with mixed feelings. Such good times in our first corvette and fond memories that I'm sure all of you understand. The garage looks empty now.
