Miscellaneous ramblings from the President

Hi all!
Here it is August already. Where is the summer going? Some of us were not in town for our last meeting so I can’t write anything about the meeting. Busy time of the year so I understand there was not a quorum.  I look forward to our August meeting and seeing you all again. We have much to discuss so be sure to make it if you can!

Eight of us were on a road trip to Idaho during the last meeting. The only way the trip could have been better would have been to have more of you come with us. Everything went perfect. Boise was a little warm but not too bad. I think it was around 100 to 105 each day. Valley Corvettes did a good job with the event. I believe there were about 150 cars. The last day of the event we participated in a caravan to McCall Idaho. The caravan did have all 150 cars. This is the largest, longest caravan I have been in! The event ended at the Ponderosa State park in McCall. This park was at Payette Lake. Mike M. went for a swim in the lake. I don’t think he killed too many fish. While all the other cars when back to Boise, we went north to Orofino, Idaho. This was a drive made for Corvettes, Lots of twisty windy roads up and down mountains. We did not know what to expect in Orofino for lodging as it is a very small town. We had a very pleasant surprise. We stayed at the Best Western plus Rivers Edge motel. I think all of us agree that of all the places we stayed this one was by far the best. It is on the Clearwater river, and I mean right on the river. You could sit on the deck and throw a rock in the water. This motel is 8 years old yet appears to be brand new. The owner and staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect. If your ever up that way put this on your list as a must stay!!!!

We left Orofino Monday morning and headed home via Montana. Everything went great. Perhaps next year can get many more members on a road trip.

We still have a lot of things going on this year. Les and Kelly’s mystery meal, DCA picnic, Grand lake and many more. We have a lot of things to discuss at the next meeting, the region is thinking about going for the 2019 convention and would like our thoughts. Are we going to host the April fools rally etc. Be sure to show up so we can get your input.

See you Down the Road!
Bill

National Corvette Museum Report:

MUSEUM EVENT PLANNING    At this year's Vettes on the Rockies, several people mentioned that they'd like more information for DtRC members about the Museum's Anniversary Celebrations held every year.  So I'm reminding you that this August 29-31 is NCM's 19th Anniversary Celebration Event, which will include induction of Werner Meier, Wil Cooksey and Johnny O'Connell into the Hall of Fame.  Registration is open till Aug. 16th, and costs $15 for museum members, $25 for non-members.  You can register by clicking on http://www.corvettemuseum.org, and selecting 19th Anniversary on the Events Tab.

Looking ahead to next year, the 20th Anniversary Celebration Event is August 28-30, 2014, and sure to be a special one.  Registration has opened and enthusiasts from all over will be caravanning to Bowling Green.  The Colorado Caravan Captain, Richard Loch, has provided info on the route, hotels, and combining with other caravans along the way.   Press Ctrl and click http://www.corvettemuseum.org/registration/celebration/20info.shtml to go to the NCM web page.  At bottom of page, use link “Check here for 20th Anniversary/National Corvette Caravan Registration”.  Click on Colorado on the map for current info, Event schedule and registration procedure.  I recommend that you register as soon as you can, as this event is not to be missed if you were ever planning on visiting the Museum!  I'll continue to remind you about this and have updates at our monthly meetings and in newsletters.
