From the Prez....

Wow, how the last month has flown by and the weather has not cooperated with any idea we have had to get the Corvettes out!

The February meeting looks to be another busy one, but if we all arrive with good attitudes and ideas we should be able to get everything addressed easily.

Everyone remember to bring a list of all the DTRC items you have.

I look forward to seeing everyone on the 24th.

Richard
President, DtRC

Miscellaneous ramblings from the Editor:

Not much to report this time.

Rally planning is under way now. The rally committee can use the help of all of us to make sure it's a success.

Pat and I won't be at the meeting, but hope to see a lot of you at the next rally planning meeting!

Congratulations to Richard and Fancy! They've done something that I'll probably only ever get to dream about doing - watch your Corvette be assembled and get to start it for the very first time!

Remember - SAVE THE WAVE!

Tim

Update on the Beast!

By Richard and Fancy Loch

We thought we would give everyone an update on what is going on with our new Carbon car.

Richard got a phone call on Friday the 28th (of January) that GM would start building the car the following Thursday, February 3rd. We rushed and made plans for Richard to arrive in Bowling Green on Wednesday and for Fancy to arrive on Saturday (she couldn't get off untill then). I arrived at the assembly plant at 8:00 on Thursday morning, two hours before our car was to start, which made it possible for a visit to the body shop and frame welding areas which normally you are not allowed to see.

At 10:17 the frame and dash of our car came into view. I cannot begin to tell you all the excitement I felt seeing it for the first time! Right away the workers noticed this car was different as it was the first time they had seen the pedals that are in the car. Everyone from that point on had to stop, look and talk to us about the car. It didn't take long and word was thru the plant about what the car was and that we had won it. Talk around the plant only increased when it came time for the window sticker to be installed, the spot where the price was stated the cost was $0.00 and the destination for the car was Dearborn, Michigan, only prototype and mule cars have this info.

The excitement never eased for the 3 days that we stood and watched every nut, bolt and bracket installed on the car. The last few minutes are what seem to be the longest, the short 20 feet our car had to travel to the point where we would get to start it for the first seemed to take days ( Fancy tells me it was only 10 minutes). Finally I was able to get in and be the first to start the car, I remember pushing the button to start the engine, the engine starting but the next couple of minutes are fuzzy. The car was completed on Tuesday the 8th at 12:37.

It will be held in the plant for 10 days to do QC, then sent to the museum to be displayed untill we pick it up on April 26th.

We both highly recomend anyone who decides to get a new Corvette, order one and include the Buyer's tour option. It is well worth 10 times what it costs.
