From your Prez

Boy is this year flying by!

It was great to have most of you over for the annual club picnic. I know that Pat and I had a great time!

I hope that all of you are enjoying the Corvetting season more than I’ve been able to do this year. Some times though, you just have to do what 7ou have to do knowing that it won’t last forever,

No matter what you do, keep the shiny side up and remember to “Save the Wave”!

Tim Barnes
President - Down the Road Corvettes

Misc. ramblings from the Editor

Hi Everyone,

What a scorcher it was today.  Although with my family reunion in town this coming weekend - better this weekend than next.  So - that's what we've been up to - getting ready for visitors.  "Spring" cleaning and painting trim, and putting up ceiling fans, etc. etc.   That and chasing raccoons out of the fireplace.  I don't care what Dave says, no wild animal baby is cute when it is rattling the glass doors wanting to come on in and sit a spell.  And 3 babies are even less cute than one.  So some bricks in front of the doors stopped that.  Then the next night - 1:45 a.m. - I thought one of them was strangling - I'd never heard such an awful noise before. I think it figured if it wasn't sleeping why should anyone sleep.

It does make you think though - the evenings you may leave the garage door open for a while, etc.  I'd hate to lock one in the garage with the Vette.  That could get nasty.   Now I look for wild critters before I go on the porch, or out in the garage if the door has been open, etc.  So keep an eye out.  And check your chimney caps.  We're going up as soon as the weather cools down and as soon as we are positive the raccoons are outta there.

What with the family in town I won't be at the meeting on Thursday.  Thanks to MaryKay for organizing pre-meeting picnic of Subway to be eaten in the meeting room - make sure to RSVP to her so she knows how much to get.

Have a great month,
Nancy B.

DtRC Hosted Events - Upcoming

DtRC/DCA La Junta Track Weekend - August 2 & 3

Bill M. is our chair for this.  The flyer is on the regional website.   On Saturday there is a half day open track practice in the morning followed by a Low Speed Autocross in the afternoon.  On Sunday there is a high speed autocross in the morning, followed by a Low Speed Autocross.  The races are all National Sanctioned.  The open track practice is regional sanctioned.  The flyer has the pre-registration form on it.  There is a substantial pre-registration discount - so if you are going you may want to pre-register.  There will also be a BBQ Saturday night.

DtRC Dealer Appreciation Show

As the June meeting minutes mentioned - it doesn't look like there will be a dealer sponsored DtRC show this year.  I'll wait until after this months meeting to make sure the status is still the same before I get the event removed from the regional calendar.  And September will still be a busy month - the club has the CSP track at the end of that month - Sept. 28th.

Upcoming Other Events
Remember a current schedule of NCCC events, access to flyers, event results and regional points standings can be found at www.rmrnccc.org .

CSCC - 2 Low Speed Autocrosses -  July 27th.  World Arena

Western Slope Weekend - August 9 & 10

Once again - Torca kicks off the weekend with a poker hand show, a PC show and a gimmick rally all on Saturday.  Then Colorado West has 3 Autocrosses at the Fruita High School on Sunday.  Six events of fun.

CWC - Annual Labor Day Round-up - Labor Day weekend.  I believe the flyer also talks about this - but here is the info I received from Central Wyomin Corvettes:

We have made some changes to the event format that we hope will make it more attractive.  We have eliminated the Sunday Banquet so that our out of town guests may leave Sunday and not miss anything.  We have brought back the Saturday night Barbeque at the Parkway, Ribs under the tent - YUM. We have also shortened the autocross course to hopefully allow for two sanctioned races with three runs each.  The 3 runs are not a promise but we think we can do it.  The course will still be fun using 3 parking lots and the straight away in front of the Events Center.  We have eliminated the autocross trophies this year but still will be doing 1st and 2nd place in class trophies for the car show and first thru third for the 2 Rallye's.

As always - lots more events - check out the region website - www.rmrnccc.org for all the upcoming regional events. Going out of state - check out www.corvettesnccc.org , scroll down almost to the bottom, click on the region you will be visiting, and see what is happening.

Past Events

DCA's Fourth of July Events at Keystone:

John H. was kind enough to call me and give me a brief rundown on the autocrosses.  John H., Phil O.and Mike K. represented DtRC at this annual Corvette/Viper challenge.  As usual - the Vipers showed up for the morning race.  Although "race" may be a loose term.  John reports that as usual the were hotdogging it, doing burnouts and loosing it a lot and doing donuts.  There were 25 or so cars there.

Phil came out ahead in the Phil vs. John battle.  John did report that he was having trouble getting the tire pressure correct and that that may have affected the outcome some.

Hastings:
John H. also wanted me to pass along that Bill M. is now a proud member of the Alfalfa club at Hastings.  At Hastings when you go off the track - they have some nice soft, non-threatening Alfalfa for you to do donuts in.  What wimps.  At CSP we have nice gravel and lots of dust - right Phil.  Much less wimpy.  And an occasional rock as others can attest to.  I guess you have to start somewhere though.  Does that mean the Bill is taking the car back to John's for another detail job?

New DtRC Club award – nominations open
SO - we presented the first "Bone-Head" award to Cathy S. - for "ruining" the original bones and for stinking up Bill's shed.  Thanks to Roger D. for bringing in more bones (already cleaned, and drilled - nothing Cathy could ruin, unless she decides these also need boiled in vinegar).  And thanks to Pat for having dental floss handy - so we could make a quick temporary necklace to present to Cathy at the meeting.  Cathy is putting the bones together.  Cathy - when will we see this masterpiece?

Committee Updates

Social Committee

Christmas Party - December 5th
Mary Kay has managed to reserve the back room at The Old Neighborhood for 7:00 - December 5th.  This is a Friday night - she was not able to get a Saturday.

Club Picnic - July 12

Kudos to Tim & Pat for two great parties in under a month.  What a fun event the annual club picnic always is.  Great turnout, great food.  While the club may have paid for the meat - I know Pat puts a lot of effort into getting it all prepared- and the shrimp was very very yummy.  I tried Dave's steak also - tasty - and perfectly cooked- just like he ordered it.   And the side dishes you all brought - wow!!  I ate way too much as usual.  Thanks everyone - it was a great success.

Mystery Meal - July 20

A big Thanks to Mike & MaryKay K. for organizing a mystery meal this month.  There were 9 cars, and we took a lovely drive up highway 6, then over to Idaho Springs, up the road towards Mt. Evans, then down to Evergreen.  We ended up for a nice lunch at the Whipple Tree restaurant.  Thanks guys.

Anyone that is willing to organize a social event please contact MaryKay K., Deana D. or Carol A.  They can also help with suggestions and date coordination.

Governor’s Report
By Nancy B.

Nothing really to report - the regional website is up-to-date with event results and standing up until Keystone.  The Keystone results should be coming in and be posted this week.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - please sign the waiver at any NCCC events you go to.  There were several club members that are on the results as not signing the waiver for the Torca show.  Gals - don't let the guys make you go up to registration alone - drag them along.  I know no one in the club is chasing points, and the club is not chasing points either - but from being on the other end of it - it is a lot easier to do the points when you can find all the names on the waivers.  Else you begin to wonder if you lost a waiver, etc.  Enough said.  I'll try to make this the last time I nag you about it.

50th Annual National Convention - August 7 - 14, 2009  - RMR - Colorado Springs, CO.

And a permanent reminder for the next year’s worth of newsletters.  Don't forget as you start making 2009 vacation plans - mark the following in your book. DtRC will be hosting the low-speed autocross at World Arena.  I don't have the dates handy, but can get them if you need them this soon.  Even if you can't join us for the whole week, we'll need lots of help the days of our events (it is over two days I believe).

For anyone that wants to get involved in the planning - even as a helper vs. a committee head - I believe the are looking for people.  For our club members - if you can help over the next year with some of the duties - please contact John M.

NCCC RMR Events
Flyers are appearing on the regional website - www.rmrnccc.org - a copy of that calendar as it stands today is at the end of this newsletter.  For Flyer info and to get the latest and greatest calendar info - check back on the regional website often.
