Some more brilliant words
from the Prez.
Maybe it’s time for a bit of history, and knowledge
testing???
With the Caravan and Convention fast approaching, I
thought it might be appropriate to give a bit of history of those two words…
Caravan
Definition as I found it:
1) a company of travelers, esp. of merchants or pilgrims
traveling together for safety, as thru a desert
2) a number of Corvettes traveling together (I thought of
that one)
3) a large covered vehicle for passengers, circus
animals, gypsies, etc.
(some of the
above may fit)

Convention (kon-ven’son) n.
1) A formal meeting of members, representatives, or delegates, as of a political party, fraternal society, profession, or industry.
2) An agreement between states, sides, military forces.
3) General agreement on or acceptance of certain practices or attitudes.
Noun
#1) a large formal assembly; group meeting
#2) something regarded as a normative example (what)
#3) (diplomacy) an international agreement
#4) orthodoxy as a consequence of being conventional
#5) the act of convening
A way of behaving that has become usual, an assembly of Corvette people of a particular interest… (I made this one up).
And lastly, as usual, a few words of wisdom;
Since the last we
met, a few events have taken place, the first event to take place was our auto-cross,
our chairman & his crew, along with many, many helpers did an excellent
job. All made DtRC a very proud club, I doubt if another Club could have done a
better job. Along with the racing, the wives did some great cooking to raise
money for “Tim’s Challenge”, a great big thank you for your time &
efforts!!!!
After the races,
another event with wonderful participation was the Georgetown July 4th
Parade. Cars were to numerous for an old man to remember, but the turn-out was
impressive.
It seems our club is
getting more involved in outside events & activities this year,
congratulations to all who are putting in extra efforts!!!!

Misc. ramblings from the
Editor:
It was good to get back on the track again! I wish I had more time to run
around the state and hit all the auto-x’s. However, now that we once again have
a “real” track in the area, I’m wondering if there would be any interest in
another club open track day?
The six weeks are going to be fast and furious! Get in, sit down, buckle up and hang on! With Vette’s on the Rockies this coming weekend, the National Convention two weeks later, Gunnison the week after that and the National Corvette Caravan the week after that, there isn’t even time to catch your breath. Don’t forget that two weeks after Labor Day will be the club’s displaced car show too! By the time we get to the end of September, we’re going to all be worn out and need tires! By the way, be sure to consider the new Michelin offerings when you go tire shopping. They are making sizes to fit most recent Corvettes now and even though they may be a little pricey, they sure do stick to hot asphalt!

The convention events are listed on the website. Mary Kay is checking on hotels close to the track for the autocross. She will e-mail the info. The club points are now listed on the regional website.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT
No new members. Research will be done on Face Book for the club.
MERCHANDISE COMMITTEE REPORT
It was approved that items will be donated to raffle for Tim's Challenge each month.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE REPORT
Thank You Dave and Wanda for the treats. July 18th will be our annual picnic at Tim and Pat Barnes home. A car show at the nursing home before the picnic.
NATIONAL MUSEUM AMBASSADOR REPORT (& CARAVAN UPDATE) Help is needed for parking at the caravan. Richard has raffle tickets available.
AUTOCROSS COMPETITION DIRECTOR REPORT
Everything is set for the autocross. Breakfast and lunch will be available at the track.
DRAG RACE DIRECTOR REPORT
The next races are July 31st and August 14th.
OPEN DISCUSSION
CAR SHOW
A car show at Jay's was approved for Sept. 19th. It will be a sanctioned event with People's Choice Awards.
PAST EVENTS
Mike & Mary Kay's picnic was a great event with fun had by all. Richard & Fancy won the rally.
Richard & Fancy had a great BBQ, good food and lots of fun.
RAFFLE
Pat and Nancy B. each won a hat in the Tim's Challenge Raffle.

4th of July Parare
Wow, what a turn out we had for the parade! Ten of DtRC’s finest examples came out for he parade the morning of July 4th. It was a beautiful day for a parade too even though it started out looking a bit iffy.
The parade route was about ˝ mile long through the main street in Georgetown. I didn’t know there was that much town there and was quite surprised. For such a small town, it seems that everyone from not only the town, but also the surrounding area was there lining the parade route. Frankly, there were more people for this parade than I saw in Commerce City for the Memorial Day parade a few years ago. The people were all excited to have our group in the parade and when the parade was over, they even asked us to park our cars on Main Street which was blocked off. I can’t tell you how many people came up to us and thanked us for sharing our cars with them that day.
We were all a little disappointed though as after some subtle encouragement and several thousands of dollars in tire smoke, we got beat out by the little kids on their bicycles for the best entry trophy. Next year, we’ll be sure to bring CANDY!
The parade organizing committee has already requested our presence in their parade for next year and I hear the route will be even longer as they are getting even more paved street for the parade.

DtRC Picnic
Well, for those of you who missed out on the picnic (Phil), I think I can safely say that a good time was had by most all. The food was excellent, the steaks, ribs and shrimp perfectly done and the libations cold and wet – kind of like Wanda and Bill.
I will admit that this is the first event I’ve been at that made it onto YouTube.
The thing that surprised me most is that the rowdiest ones at the party were all sober tea-totalers!
I’m not sure how we can improve the picnic next year, but I suspect there will somehow be a few more weapons of mass destruction present. Maybe we should either require everyone consume adult drinks to mellow things out or cut off the adult drinks altogether (though I really kind of like living in my neighborhood and I’m concerned about the potential impact of a sober crowd after Saturday’s events).
At any rate, if you didn’t have a good time at the picnic, it was your fault as I haven’t laughed that long and that hard in years!
Thanks to everyone who brought a dish to pass and a special thanks to Bill and Cathy for sharing their grill and Cathy’s grilling skills. (Hmmm… I wonder why Bill doesn’t do the grilling? Isn’t grilling a guy thing?)

50th Annual National Convention - August 7 - 14,
2009 - RMR - Colorado Springs, CO.

Thank you all for signing up to help come work those two days. Here is a little bit about how it is laying out. And I intend to check out some hotels this weekend - so you may have gotten hotel info update prior to this even getting published.
Low-Speed Autocross - Tuesday and Wednesday - August 11 & 12. Tuesday is group 2 and 3 cars - so will be the smaller of the 2 days. Right now there are just over 200 signed up for the low-speed autocross. So that is split across 4 time slots - 2 days and only morning or afternoon for each set. Some additional entrants will sign up as we get closer - but so far it is all very manageable - what with all your help. Phil and I will let you now times, etc. as we get closer. Some of us will be there Monday setting up - but for most of you - we just need you there bright and early Tuesday.
The last sign-up timeframe for on-line reservation is right now. It is the 3rd price increase - and while I don't know what it will be at the door - it will be higher. As of a week ago - about 740 people (people - not cars) were signed up for convention. I don't know what the car equivalent is.
Day passes - if anyone is interested in a day pass - they should sign up online
(before July 4th) or you can do it at the door - but they of course prefer
online. If you signup online - there is really nothing on the
registration form indicating what you should do. So here is what Walt
said to do - sign up online - in the comments section put which day passes you
want (and if there is a "food" or other event that there is a line
item for on the registration form for that day - check it). Do not pay via pay
pal - put a note in the comments section that you want day passes and for which
days - and to please email you the amount that you owe so that you can
send in a check. The day pass gets you into the meals, parties, vendor
room, and in to watch the competition events. It does not allow you to
sign up for any of the competition events. If I wrote it down right -
most days the day passes are $50. There may be a day with no meals that is
$40 and another day that is $60. If you want to know for sure -
Walt's email is on the convention website - drop him a note and he will let you
know the specifics. There is no day pass price difference if you sign up
at the door - it just helps them get their numbers into catering sooner if you
do it online.
Convention Merchandise - you don't need to attend convention to order the merchandise. There are some cool prints, etc. and a lot of it with the smaller logo while still convention - really features NCCC 50th. So - if you want the wide range of colors in the shirts - etc, you need to order online by July 15th. After that - merchandise will be available at the convention - and will be basic colors only.
Walt has put out a call for any door prizes that anyone can get hold of. Even if they are small - they can combine several small items into a nice package. So if anyone has any - you can contact Walt or me - and we'll arrange pick-up.
Will keep you all informed as we get closer. Dave and I and Phil did attend the Convention Committee meeting last Sunday. There are a lot of people working very hard to pull this all together - from registration, to goodie bags, to parties and entertainment and all the competition events. It's going to be a great event.

Wow, we’re getting really close to 40 days to go!!!!
Most of the major details are set, the t-shirts are ready and even though we’ve encountered some unexpected wrinkles, we aren’t giving up. It appears that sponsorship of the event is going to be more difficult than anticipated. If you have any ideas on sponsors, please get with Mike P, Richard L or me!
We are going to have another committee meeting on July 30th to take a checkpoint of final preparations. All are invited to come and brainstorm solutions to the remaining challenges!
