Miscellaneous ramblings from the President

Where to begin. This has been a busy month. It is hard to believe it is only the beginning of the Corvette season.

We had 10 Corvettes and 2 metal cars for our April mystery meal! We left at 9:00 and headed to Westcliff. What a beautiful drive. Everyone was well behaved speed wise. Well almost everyone (I won’t mention any names but one person ((news letter editor)) really got into things until her “navigator” took over.) We had lunch in Westcliff where the food was good but the service was lacking. After lunch we headed to Bishops castle. If you have never been there it is worth the trip just to see the castle. As I remember only a couple of us climbed to the top. The “older members” viewed from the bottom.

Last week we met at Northglenn middle school to help celebrate their 50th anniversary. We had 12 cars show up! We had a good time and the kids loved the cars. Many pictures were taken with the kids in the cars.

Six of us went to Gateway this weekend. We just got back a couple of hours ago. We had a great time despite the fact that Gateway itself was less than 50% of what it normally is. Just goes to show you, it doesn’t matter how many of us go to an event we still have a great time with our fellow club members. Although some may argue, we even kept our speeds down going and coming from Gateway. The only people that exceed the speed limit a little were, well, EVERYONE but only for a very brief time. I realized just as we were pulling into my drive that I still have that little gizmo that my insurance company sent me that plugs into the car and send them data on my speed, braking etc. I am going to claim that it is defective.

We have a lot on our plate coming up very soon. I would like to see a great turnout at the TORCA rally next weekend! TORCA usually puts on a good event. It would be nice to show up in force to show them our support. They are having the show at a new venue for them. It is at the Boulder fair grounds. I have heard we will be parking on grass although I cannot promise that. We have a our show Fathers day therefore our support may be returned.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting.

Bill

New Member Corner

Why would anyone join the “Down the Road Corvettes” club?

Everyone has there own reasons for joining and not all are shared among members.  Some may be looking for adventure and others may join to meet fellow enthusiasts.

For me, joining is a combination of making new friends, experiencing new adventures and the joy of learning from like minded people.  The club is a great blend of personalities with different tastes.  You can however, count on a shared interest of people that wake up in the morning looking for an excuse to crank the engine.  The thrill of stepping on the gas and letting the seat absorb your body, it is the thrill of quick response and hugging the curves.  Cruising with the top down or simply buffing out that last fingerprint on the door.  The DTRC members share a passion, a desire and a youthful heart; it is as if there is a secret we all know but never need to talk about, there is a light in our eyes that shines brightest when we do what we love...  We drive Corvettes......

From the Editor:

"Down the Road Corvettes" - Driving On Windy, Narrow Roads.

I realized what a truly fitting name for the group as I tried to hold the camera steady on the dash, the dog in my lap, and white nuckles following a line of Corvettes through the canyon between Grand Junction and Gateway. Hwy 141 is a beautiful drive through stunning red rock canyons and spectacular views. The Gateway Resort, Museum and drive should be on everyone's bucket list.

Mike and I would like to invite everyone to dinner at our home before our next meeting from 4:30 - 6:30pm. We hope that all of your will come. Pleaes RSVP to jani@habervision.com or shoe@habervision.com the evening before so we sure to enough food and drinks.

I'm looking forward to a fun filled summer with everyone and a chance to get to know our new members.

Jani
