From the Prez

 Greetings All,

October is upon us which means fall is in the air and the temperature is dropping. But it is still not time to put those Corvettes away for the winter yet – we have a few functions left to go – The Sno’ Big Deal extravaganza is coming up in a few weeks and we hope to get a good turnout of Corvettes at that event. Plus, there are a few other NCCC events around town that you can still be a part of.

Well, this is my final "Letter From the Prez". It is kind of a sad moment because I have really enjoyed my time serving as your President for the past two years. I have gotten a lot and learned several things from this experience. First, being involved with this club at this level has really enabled me to learn the internal dynamics of this fine organization. This is a world-class group and we do things with a very high level of success. Second, as I have said in the past, it truly does take the efforts of more than just a few people to get things accomplished at the level that we do. This organization wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the help of everyone involved. Last, I have gotten to know most of you on a deeper level that I ever would have as just a club member…and to me that was the most important part of it all. I have made some wonderful and long lasting friendships from this experience.

As next years board members take office, please give them your support just have you have given it to me over the past few years. Remember, these folks are volunteering their time and efforts for you and for the success of the club.

On behalf of this year’s board members, we would like to thank you for all your support and for making 2007 a wonderful year to remember.

As always, I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting on the 25th. (as it is an election meeting, this would be a good one to attend.)

Save the Wave! And one last final farewell……..

Misc. ramblings from the Editor:

Hi Everyone,

What a strange weekend.  It was absolutely too nice to just sit inside on Saturday and do the newsletter.  Then 4 inches of snow and cold on Sunday.  A much better day to sit around.  My proofreader is out of town so I apologize in advance for the typos.

A big thanks to Bill S. for agreeing to be the roving reporter and assist with some of the newsletter articles. Now one word of warning - Bill has also designated himself as "investigative" reporter.  So if you see someone peeking in your car windows - don't say you weren't warned.  It's still not too late - if anyone wants to take over as editor next year - just give a holler (or a whisper for that matter).  I'm sure the club would love to hear from one of you instead of me.

Very Important Items for this month with details further down in the newsletter:

- Dues are due at the October meeting.
- Elections are being held at the October meeting - this is a good one NOT to miss.  Absentee ballot and instructions have been sent out.
- There is one DtRC hosted day of events (5 events) still to come - the Sno' Big Deal Extravaganza is Nov. 17th.

See you all Thursday.
Nancy B.

Minutes of Past Meeting

Down the Road Corvettes
Minutes of September Meeting

Colorado Corvette Club
Bill & Jan F. & Kevin & Leslie B

Quorum was present.

The previous minutes were approved.

The books balance.  Checks have been sent for all expenses for the last autocross. The amounts  for Tim's Challenge and the penny board were reported.  Motion was made, seconded and the treasurer's report was approved.

Autocross Summary
John M reported. Autocross went great. There was a profit.  It was a co-hosted day with DCA so the profit was split with them.

Car Show Summary
John M reported. Show went great. Jeff, GO GM, loved the show. They sold a C6 Z06.  Kool 105 was broadcasting from the show. Only 40 (non-club) cars showed up so the club cars were brought into the main show area - so it was still an impressive display.  Three other shows were the same day.   One was Muscle Car Madness with over 1000 cars.  Mentioned that it would be nice next year to work with GO on the dates more (it is pretty much set now by the off-site used car sale) to avoid the conflict with other major shows.  Due to budget constraints DtRC paid for the band.

Tim’s Challenge

Tim B. reported. Talked about making Tim's Challenge a non profit (501C3). Tim created a rough draft of the mission and read it to the club.  Colorado Corvette Club members are going to meet with Tim after the meeting about being part of the non profit organization.  People who are interested in being on the board will meet during the break.  Rick C. discussed an email from Carol P. which discussed 6 persons/families who were in dire need. These people were recommended by Interfaith Arms. Club agreed to support these people.  Pat B. mentioned at CCC might want to pick some of the recipients. . CCC said they were OK with the people that we picked.  Jan F. from CCC said they have about $300 from raffles for Tim’s Challenge.

School of Mines parade Oct. 13th. 5 people said they would be willing to participate.

Sno Big Deal Extravaganza

Bill S:  Nov.17 Southland  Mall (470 and Smokey Hill)  3 games have already been determined, need two more  All proceeds go to Tim’s Challenge  John M. made a motion to let Colorado Corvette Club take two of the sanctions and do two of the events.  Motion passed. Nancy B. needs to know their decision by 10/17.  Bill S. will send out an email about an organization meeting.

Club News:

Pre-Meeting Eating - from Deana D.

Hi Everyone ~~ I'll set up a reserved table at Mickey's this Thursday evening at 5:30 if anyone wants to join us for dinner before the meeting.  All are welcome.  Just ask for the Corvette Club table.  ~~Deana

November & December Birthdays: - 11/2 - Tanya R.;  11/4 - Dave B.; 11/16 - Bill M.; 11/28 - Roger D.; 12/2 - Barb R; 12/9 - Russell W; 12/10 - Scott G.; 12/29 - Don P.

Pat B. joined us at the last meeting - it was good to see you Pat and our best wishes to you also.

Membership Dues are Due
Make checks payable to DtRC.  $80/couple, $50 single.  One check covers both your club dues and your NCCC dues.  If you can't make the meeting - mail them to Nancy Burritt - my address is correct in the directory.  Drop me an email that you are mailing a check so I know to look for it.  I'd really like the dues by Nov 5th, so I have time to process them, and get them to our Regional Membership Directory in a timely manner.  I'll send out a couple of reminder emails over the next week or so.

Elections at the October Meeting
All club members should have received the absentee ballot from Rick.  If you didn't - please contact him.  If you are going to be at the meeting - you of course don't need to fill out the absentee ballot - but you may want to look at it - especially if you missed the last meeting and your name either is someplace you don't want it, or if you want to run for a particular position and aren't on there.  October is also where the volunteer committees and positions are "staffed" for next year - although you an always join a volunteer committee any time during the year.

Tim's Challenge Update
By Tim B.
Tim’s Challenge is now an official non-profit corporation! On October 16th, Tim’s Challenge became Tim’s Challenge, Inc. an official registered corporation. The current board of directors consists of John M, Mike K, Jan F & Leslie B (CCC) and Tim B. The corporation is now looking for officers and working on the by-laws before applying to the IRS for 501(c)(3) status. Once the application to the IRS has been completed, all contributions to Tim’s Challenge will officially be tax deductible. This will allow us to take Tim’s Challenge to new heights!

DtRC Sno' Big Deal Extravaganza Charity Fund Raiser - Nov. 17th
By Bill S. (event co-chair)

We are well on the way to getting everything set up for the Sno Big Deal Extravaganza.
The event will be at Southlands Mall, E470 & Smokey Hill, November 17. We will set everything up at McCabe's which is located in the central plaza area.  After participating in the events they will have an area for us to order lunch off the menu.
We will have 5 shows total. Like last year we will be having a show with votes available at a minimal cost. We will also ask the employees of the restaurant to pick their favorite for the best of show host choice. We are trying to get the mall management to reserve parking by the fountain for our cars but we have no definite answer as yet. Regardless there is plenty of parking in the plaza. We do have the advantage of having Colorado premier parking chair person. (Mike M.) I'm sure he will figure something out.
The formal Flier is being updated by John Maxwell and should be out very soon.

Editors Note: This is our major Tim's Challenge fund-raiser of the year.  Entry fee is only $25 and that includes all 5 shows.  And don't forget your wallet and/or checkbook to "vote" for your favorite car in the buy a vote car show.  The show chairs will need help that day with registration, parking, running the games, etc.  Club members are encouraged to enter the event but will have time to help out also.  Bill will update us at the meeting as to where he needs help that day and what time setup is.

Governors Note:  All 5 events are Regional Sanctioned 3 points per entrant per event regardless of where you place  in any of the events.  You must have your Corvette there and be entered to earn entrant points.  Club members who just come to help but don't have their Corvette there or don't pay the entry fee will receive worker points for the events.  Remember - you must sign the waiver to earn either entrant or worker points.

TORCA Nov. 4th Autocrosses - Cancelled
TORCA has cancelled their 2 autocrosses scheduled for November 4th.

DCA Fun Rallyes - November 18th
This is currently the last scheduled event of the NCCC competition season.  It is a mega-weekend with our Sno' Big Deal Extravaganza on Saturday and their Rallyes on Sunday.  Official Club Weather Goddesses - start doing your dance for good weather on that weekend.

Past Happenings

Colorado School of Mines Parade - Oct. 13
By Bill S. - Official Roving Reporter

The Colorado School of Mines parade was a great success, we had 8 cars. Cathy and I, Mike and Mary D, Mike and Jackie M(two cars), Russell and Pam W, Bruce K and his guest, Don and Tanya R (known to Cathy as "Big Daddy" and Mike and MaryKay K.
It was raining Saturday morning in North Denver so we weren't sure what kind of turn out we would have. Bruce called at 6:30 to say "its raining", Cathy ask him what his point is? We were pleasantly surprised to leave the park and ride with 3 cars and show up at the parade line up lot with 5 cars there. The rain had stopped before we arrived in Golden. Just before the parade started, the sun came out giving us a warm sunny start.
The Vipers were staged next to us in the parking lot. Our insider (spy) walked over to them and did a little undercover investigation. I can't tell you who she was but her initials are PW. She did come back to us with very closely guarded information about Vipers. "Their paint is dull"!  We had a float between the Vipers and Corvettes. As lead car with our top down, Cathy and I were aware of how quiet the crowd ahead of us was. Cathy leaned over to me and quietly said "you can lite em up if you want but just a little bit". I did. Next thing I knew, 7 Corvettes behind us were lighting them up a little except Mike M, he doesn't know what a little means. (I'm sure Jackie does). The crowd went nuts. Little old men and women were motioning for us to lite em up.
We had a great time! We went to the Sonic after the parade for a snack. I can't tell you how nice it was to get together with old friends in such an environment. This was the first time we had the opportunity to be around Pam and Russell, what great people! I look forward to seeing them more often.
Oh, I should mention that there were 9 Vipers. Seven were red and the others were custom colors, all dull. We had 8 Corvettes, six different colors all shining like new.

Governor’s Report
By Nancy B.

Membership Dues due at October meeting

I have to turn in the membership renewals by mid-November.  As such - dues collection will be at the October meeting.  Renewal dues are $50 for a single, $80 for a couple.  If you can't make the October meeting please mail a check to me at the address in the directory.  Try to do this by around November 5th.  Call or email if you don't have my address. Make checks payable to DtRC.

There will be a new NCCC rulebook for 2008.  Information should be in your membership packets.

NCCC pins and planners will come through the Regional Membership Director to the club governors and then to you all.  So don't look for them in the membership packets you get after the first of the year.  I'll distribute them at the first meeting held after I receive them.  This will probably be the January meeting.

Christmas is coming, your loved ones helmet is another year older.  Check your helmet and those of anyone else in your family.  They must be no older than 10 years from date of manufacture.  If you check before Christmas - this would make a perfect gift for that person who has everything else but whose helmet is expired.

Club Clash is over for the year.
