From your Prez

Wow, it’s so hard to believe that we are about to have the last meeting of the year. Where in the world did the year go?!?!

It will be a very busy meeting this month with the election of officers for next year and suggestions for candidate families for Tim’s Challenge. If you have families that you think would make good candidates to create possibility for, please bring some information on them to the meeting.

Also, don’t forget that we have the Sno’ Big Deal Rally coming up. Judging by the conversations at TORCA’s All Hallow's Eve Rally, we should expect pretty good attendance. Every one seems to be looking forward to it.

I hope to see all of you at the meeting and don’t forget, if you haven’t already paid your dues for 2009, the meeting will be your last opportunity to do so.

I hope to see all of you there!

Tim

Misc. ramblings from the Editor

Hi Everyone,

What a gorgeous day Sunday was.  And it is was good to see everyone at the TORCA rally since we had to miss all the fun club events the last few weeks.  Our two week driving trip was a good one, we had business to take care of in Arizona, and then managed to have some fun in San Diego and Las Vegas, etc.  It was 99 degrees in Yuma, AZ when we got there (10 p.m. at nite) and 106+ during the days.  And then two weeks later we come through the Eisenhower tunnel to a blizzard.  Snowy/icy roads, jack-knifed semis, etc.  So we hit a little of everything..

We did see a couple of places I would recommend.  White Sands National Monument in New Mexico.  We weren't in the Vette - but it would be a doable place in the Vette if you are down that way - as long as you didn't mind a little white sand on the tires and on the floor mats.  Mile after mile of huge sand dunes (40-50 feet high?) that you could swear were snow if it wasn't 90 degrees out there.  There were even kids in plastic saucers sledding.  And some big open parking lots that look like they would be a kick to have an autocross in - but I guess the National Park Service probably wouldn't like that..  San Diego - Corvette Diner.  http://www.cohnrestaurants.com/restaurants/corvettediner/  - like our Gunther Toody's - but on steroids.  And with a real late 50/early 60's(?) Vette in the restaurant.  Live DJ, Vette memorabilia all over, etc.  And to our surprise - it turned out to be less than 2 miles from our hotel - so was convenient - how often does that happen.  The Air Show in San Diego was very good - and if you haven't been to one lately - you should really go see some of your tax dollars at work - the military jets are quite impressive - all the way from the older ones to the F-22 - which was totally awesome.

Always fun to deviate from the beaten track a little and to combine some pleasure with business.

Again, a big thank you to everyone over the past several years who have sent articles/committee reports in for the newsletter.  I don't know if I'll do a wrap up one after this next meeting - or just let Tim kick it off in January.  It will probably depend on how much stuff there is to write up between now and then.

Hope to see you Thursday,
Nancy B.

Club News:

November, December, January Birthdays:
November -
2 - Tanya R; 4- Dave B; 16 - Bill M; 28 - Roger D
December 29 - Don P; January 4 - Pat B.

Tidbits
- I hear that one of the birthdays on October 28 will be the big 50.
- At the rally today we got to see Mike & Mary's new C6 Z06 - black - great wheels guys.

Remember - no regular meetings in November in December, but don't forget the NCCC events, the social events and the Christmas Party.

DtRC Hosted Events - Upcoming

Sno Big Deal Charity Car Shows - Nov 22nd

This is always a blast and combined with DCA's gimmick rallyes on the following day - a great weekend to wrap-up the NCCC season.  As  you know this is one of the fund-raising activities that we have for our Christmas Charity, so come on out and have some fun.  The flyer should be out shortly but I hear the location is Bar Louie's (sp?) at Northfield.  The gang ate there between the parade and car show the other weekend - Gail and others say the food is great.  So put in your order for good weather, mark your calendar, and let's end the year on a high note.

Upcoming Other Events
Remember a current schedule of NCCC events, access to flyers, event results and regional points standings can be found at www.rmrnccc.org .

The AutoCross season is over for our region - but there are still some upcoming events.  November brings the CSCC Sno Flakes Rally, and then the competition/fun season is capped off by our SnoBig Deal Fundraiser Car Shows, and DCAs fun rallyes - the weekend before Thanksgiving.  So mark your calendars and go have some fun.

Remember to check out the region website - www.rmrnccc.org for all the upcoming regional events. Going out of state - check out www.corvettesnccc.org , scroll down almost to the bottom, click on the region you will be visiting, and see what is happening.

Past Events

DtRC AutoCross - September 28

I want to thank John M for doing the results for this, and to all that helped organize and work the event.  I've heard that all went very well.  The results are posted on the regional web-site.

TORCA Gimmick rally and poker hand car show - October 19

Good to see all you guys there - the club had great representation.  Mike & Jackie placed in the poker hand - full house.  Dave & I took second in the rally.  We "tied" for first - but we don't know our Nemo fish, and pretty much sucked in the tie-breaker - so 2nd place it was.  Amazingly we never turned around once - that is a first for us.  We backed up a few times, we drove real slow - but we never turned around :)   They said mileage counted - I don't know if it did or not - but the mention of it was enough for Dave to not want to turn around.  Mike & Jackie placed 5th in the rally.  Kudos also to Deana & Roger, Mike & Mary, Bill & Cathy, John & Gail, Tim & Pat, & Bruce.  What a great day.

It was a busy social month for the club also.  I heard a great time was had by all at the games night - thanks once again for your hospitality Tim & Pat.

And thanks to Bill S. for sending in the following:

Colorado School of mines Parade (a.m.) and Nursing Home Car Show (p.m.).

We had a good turn out for the parade and Pats car show at the senior center. Mike and Mary, Don, John H., Mike and Mary Kay, Roger L., Cathy and I, Tim, and Gail all showed up. (Pat B. and Dave C. joined us at the car show)  Once again we had fewer cars than the Vipers.  I got a thank you card from the parade organizer. She said the crowd really liked our burn outs. I know everyone seemed quietly polite until I lit them up.  Cathy and I could hear others behind us doing the same. The entire atmosphere changed!!!!!!!!!! Clapping, cheers and request for more came from everyone.  I have to say that it was a very short parade but that's not all bad.
After the parade we all went to the location of our Snow Big Deal rally. We had lunch and did some negotiating with the manager. See the upcoming flyer.

After lunch we all headed to Tim and Pats house. I seems that Tim could not get Pats C5 out of park. We all kicked the tires, checked the oil then told Tim he was on his own. We headed to the senior center for the show. Pat drove her metal car. She really believes that Tim had something to do with her car break down. Murphys law, "If you even touch your wife's car, it will break down".

It seemed like old times, we had a lot of fun and I for one enjoyed seeing everyone socially again.

Thanks Bill

I still haven't heard if this had been officially awarded yet - but will keep this spot in the newsletter as a placeholder.

Committee Updates

Social Committee
Christmas Party - December 5th
Mary Kay has managed to reserve the back room at The Old Neighborhood for 7:00 - December 5th.  Mary Kay and Deana are now taking "reservations".  So let them know if you will be there.

Governor’s Report -
By Nancy B.

  • Dues - are due from me to the RMD by Nov. 17th.  So our Membership Committee (Cathy S) will be collecting dues - due to her by November 1st.  The most convenient place to submit your dues is probably at the October meeting.  But feel free to mail them to her also  (drop an email and let her know you sent them).  Reminder emails will be coming out from her or me.  As Governor - I have to tally everything and get the correct DtRC checks sent to NCCC.  Make your checks out to DtRC.  If anyone that isn't re-joining is still reading the newsletter - please drop Cathy and I an email or let us know when you see us that you aren't rejoining - that will help me get the paperwork in to NCCC in time.
  • Regional Officers for 2009 have been elected.  They are as follows

        Secretary:  Barb Reynolds
Treasurer:   None (after the votes were counted there has been one volunteer - I'll pass that info along after that is made official)
        Regional Membership Director:  Ellouise Morrison
        Regional Competition Director:  Curt Ingram
        Regional Executive:  Pete Urenda

50th Annual National Convention - August 7 - 14, 2009  - RMR - Colorado Springs, CO
.

And a permanent reminder for the next year’s worth of newsletters.  Don't forget as you start making 2009 vacation plans - mark the following in your book. DtRC will be hosting the low-speed autocross currently scheduled for the parking lot at PPIR.  I don't have the AutoCross dates handy, but can get them if you need them this soon.  Even if you can't join us for the whole week, we'll need lots of help the days of our events (it is over two days I believe).

NCCC RMR Events
Flyers for this falls events are appearing weekly on the regional website - www.rmrnccc.org - a copy of that calendar as it stands today is at the end of this newsletter.  For Flyer info and to get the latest and greatest calendar info - check back on the regional website often.
