From the Prez

 Greetings All,

September already Ė my does time fly Ė as our 2007 year begins to come to a close, scheduling for the 2008 year has already begun.  Ed. Note - Rick sent this before he went on vacation - so I'm going to amend to "Late September already --...."

As we spoke about quickly during our last meeting, it is election time again. We will be taking nominations, beginning with our September meeting, for all the available offices that are open for next year. Along with that, we will be looking for volunteers to head-up some of our major events and to chair some of our committees. The actual election will be held at the October meeting.

If you really take a good hard look at our club and all the committees it takes to put on all our wonderful events, you will realize that there is a lot to be done. It is a lot of work for just a few people, however it is not so bad if everyone steps up to the plate and gives just a bit of their time to help out. One of the nice things about this group is that you are never alone. If you havenít held an office before or never been a committee head, not to worry, there is always someone who is standing by who has done it before to help out. Plus, it is always good to get some new ideas going so we donít get stagnant as a group. One of the greatest satisfactions for me while I have held my current position is just the mere fact that I have gotten to know so many of you on a more personal basis and closer than I ever had before Ė and what a great group of people we truly have. So I look forward to seeing a bunch of new faces being nominated or volunteering for an open spot. Iíll be sending an email out reminding everyone what exact positions are available right before the meeting. If anyone has any questions on any of the positions or committees and what that position may entail, feel free to give me a call and Iíll be happy to discuss it with you.

Now donít think 2007 is quite over yet, we still have a few events of our own, like the Snoí Big Deal extravaganza and our Annual Christmas party, and there are several other NCCC events happening throughout October and November Ė be sure to check out the websites calendar.

As always, I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting on the 27th.

Save the Wave!

Misc. ramblings from the Editor:

Hi Everyone,

I hear you all had a great show.  We were thinking of you that day.  While you guys were partying (aka working hard to put on a great show) I was dragging Dave on a walk up the Virgin River in Zion National Park (the walk literally was IN the river).  Nice brisk water, cliffs thousands of feet high on either side that the water carved through over probably hundreds of millions of years.  The bus driver in Zion said rain seeps down through the sandstone and when it hits a non-permeable layer it is forced to exit out the canyon walls, often as a small natural spring.  They have measured the age of this water (don't ask me how) and some of it is as much as 4000 years old.  We were seeing 4000 year old rain dripping down the canyon wall.  That really puts things in perspective.  The day before we did some hiking in Bryce Canyon (like 40 switchbacks to get down to the bottom of Bryce) and a hike through a creek in a small slot canyon in Escalante Staircase National Monument.   The wonders in that part of the world are truly phenomenal.  Sometimes it is just nice and even necessary to just get away from it all.  Whether it is enjoying the natural wonders right outside our back door (sometimes in almost solitude and at others with lots of other tourists - all out there to experience and enjoy the beauty and magnitude of it all), or losing oneself people watching in the always hopping Alice in Wonderland experience of Las Vegas, it is a great change of pace from the daily grind and a great refresher. We took the SUV so we could get to some of the off-road hikes.  We did however see a group of about a dozen Corvettes driving just south of the Grand Canyon - and that was a gorgeous site also. We automatically did "the wave" - they probably wondered why a Mazda SUV was waving at them.  But we knew.

On another inspirational note - I just wanted to say a special "HI" to Pat B.  We got to visit her before we left.  After all she has been through she has the best and most upbeat attitude of anyone I know.  We walked in and it was all a little overwhelming with all the hardware she was wearing - but her spirits were great.  Without putting words into her mouth - I truly got the impression that as bad as it all was, she knows it could have been worse and is thankful that every day she is healing and making progress.  The email I got from her this week indicates she is making very good progress.  Pat - we wish you continued speedy recovery and know you will be out playing with us soon.  You truly are inspirational.

Enough of the sappy stuff.  See what happens when I don't have Corvette stuff to write about and when our president is so great about reminding you about the club items in his columns that I need filler for mine.  Just wanted to mention that the newsletter editor/writer is one of the volunteer jobs that is fair game and up for anyone that wants it.  Fresh ideas/perspectives are always welcome.  If you have an interest just raise your hand - we'd love to hear from you.  And I'm sure the rest of the club would too.

See you all Thursday.
Nancy B.

From Bruce K

The Humane Society of Boulder County "Cause for Paws" walk and run was a great success. THANK YOU for helping Nick and me accumulate the 3rd highest donation amount of $827.00. The goody bag reward contained a great squeaky toy for Nick. He walked the whole 3 + miles, but wouldn't move after we crossed the finish line. So he got well deserved rides on shoulders to the pancake breakfast and back to the car.
Thank you again,
Bruce & Nick

Past Happenings

DtRC Events:

August 18 Carnation Festival Parade
From Deana D.

We had 6 convertible Corvettes show up for the annual parade at the Carnation Festival in Wheat Ridge on Saturday, the 18th of August.  We were asked by Mike Kelley's son, Brett, if we would participate in the parade in support of his campaign for election to City Council.  At the grandstand our club name was announced and why we were there so we got some exposure too.  Two of our cars carried dignitaries, waving and smiling, with signs on the sides of the car.  The parade lasted about a half hour and we were then treated to lunch by Mike Kelley at Jus' Cooking on Union & 6th.  Thanks, Mike!

September 22 Fall Color Drive
From Cathy S. right after they returned on Saturday

Oh we had a great time today.  It was just us, Mike and Mary, John H. and Roger & Maxima.  We had lunch in Grand Lake.   Hit the corners a little too fast for my liking coming home from Winter Park, but the fall colors are beautiful.

Ed. Note - sounds like it was a great time.  We came up through Silverton and Ouray that same day - and the colors were gorgeous (even though it was cloudy down there).

NCCC Events:

DtRC's third autocross day - August 26th - Colorado National Speedway - Erie

Another great DtRC/DCA event.  The weather was great.  The bad wind held off until we were cleaning up.  There were about 40 drivers each race.  Dave B. took pictures of the cars that raced the first race.  He then emailed them out to all the participants.  We've received many thank you notes for both the photographs and for the club putting on such a good event.  It was the third and final DtRC hosted autocross of the year.  A big round of applause to the autocross committee and to all the helpers.  Great job all - it was a lot of work and a very successful autocross year.

DtRC/GO Dealer Appreciation Car Show - September 15th

We're sorry we had to miss this event but had prior commitments.  Don P. dropped a note out to the club after the show and said the show went very well and a big thanks to all that helped.  I'm sure we'll get more of a summary at the next club meeting.  Thanks to all who came helped that day and an extra big thanks to the show committee chaired by Don and Dallas and to Mike D. for working with the dealer on all the logistics.

Corvette Roundup - Central Wyoming Corvettes - Labor Day Weekend

Dave and I weren't able to go this year.  After several years of high participation from DtRC, I think a lot of people were ready to do something different for Labor Day this year.  We did have a small group of cars head up and they did very well.  In the Gimmick Rally Barb R finished 2nd.  In the autocross the ladies did very well.  Tammy B. took overall ladies FTD and Wanda C. did great taking ladies Factory class FTD.  For those non-racers - FTD is Fasted Time of Day.  Dale B. took first in his class.  The times between the husband/wife pairs were extremely close.  Dale bested Tammy by only .4 (point 4) seconds and Wanda ran circles around Dave by a whole .08 seconds (eight one hundredths) :) .  Great job ladies.  Of the DtRC group Bill M. had the fastest time.  Good job all.

RMR NCCC National Convention 2009 Bid

As you all know, the Rocky Mountain Region has put in a bid to host the NCCC National Convention in 2009.  CSCC is taking the lead positions on this and home base for the event would be Colorado Springs - but it would be put on by the Region - at least the Front Range clubs, with Montana and Wyoming invited to help.  Here is the email that Walt J. from Colorado Springs sent out to all the governors in the country.   Please feel free to go check out the material they have put together.  I know that he and John M and others have spent many hours putting together the promotional materials.  Michigan has put in a competing bid so there is competition for the event this time.

Greetings, my name is Walt J-- and I will be the Convention Director for the 2009 NCCC Convention if it is held in Colorado Springs , Colorado .

By now you should all have received the 2009 NCCC Convention proposal that I gave at the National Governorís Meeting on September 8th, 2007. We in the Rocky Mountain Region hope that you will read it over and decide to vote for Colorado Springs as the site for the 2009 NCCC Convention.

We have also put together a video of some of the sights and sounds that you will experience when you come to Colorado . The Rocky Mountain Regionís website at has both a movie and a color version of the presentation that I gave at the Governorís Meeting. I encourage you all to go to the site, download the movie and take a look at our presentation. The movie takes awhile to download, but it is very worthwhile.

Please share this information with your club members and we hope that you will vote for Colorado Springs as the site for the 2009 NCCC Convention.

Regional Officers

The region has a new secretary.  Former RE Cindy U. is back involved as a regional officer in the position of secretary.  She was voted in to fill the position that had recently became vacant.  Cindy along with all of the other officers have all been nominated for their same positions for next year.  You can find a current listing of officers on the regional website - .  The positions of Regional Executive, Regional Competition Director, Regional Membership Directory, Treasurer and Secretary are all elected positions.  If anyone would like to be nominated or would like to nominate someone else for any of these positions please contact me soon.  Nominations close at the next regional governors meeting on October 21st but if there are any nominations before then they can be sent out via email to the governors.  Voting is done right after nominations close at the next governors meeting.

Drag Racing Report
Joan B.

Club Clash is over for the year.  We look forward to Joan's report at the meeting.

This year's merchandise committee is composed of Patty C., Jackie M and Tonya R.  If you need any merchandise or have any ideas - let them know.
