From your Prez

Wow, I can’t believe that summer is pretty much over! Where, oh where has it gone?!?!

I really hate that I’m going to have to miss the September 28th auto-x, but work is going to interfere one more time. Darn it all.

Now is the time for all good club members to step up to the plate! Your club needs you! Throw your hat in the ring! Take a chance and just nominate your self for a position in the management of the club. All of the great things that this club does now or has done in the past have come from people just like you who saw something new or a different way to do something we are already doing. Remember, with this club, you can’t fail!

Speaking of things come up, the 2009 National Corvette Caravan is just around the corner. Come help out with that too. I can personally tell you that participating in the Caravan in any form is way more fun than adults are allowed to have! The organizational meeting will be Tuesday, September 23rd at our house at 7:00 PM. After that, I’ve reserved our meeting room at Go Chevrolet on the second Thursday at 7:00 PM for regular Caravan meetings starting October 9th.

Remember, Save the Wave and keep the shiny side up!

Tim

Misc. ramblings from the Editor

Hi Everyone,

First I'd like to thank Tim for volunteering to do the newsletter next year.  I'm sure you are all tired of hearing from me and a fresh perspective is always good.  "Summer" may be over as of tonite - but this weekend DtRC is hosting 2 autocrosses at CSP and I think we can say that that officially kicks off the regional fall NCCC season.  And it is a busy one.  Check out the regional calendar because there are fun events almost every weekend from now until mid-October, and then more in November.  In addition - it looks like Oct. 4th is a fun packed day for the club.  Like Tim, we unfortunately are going to have to miss the autocross as we will be out of town.  So if you can clear your calendar to come out and help - please do so.  Help is especially needed early - track setup, running cables, tech, registration, etc.  So whether you come to work and run, or just to work - come on out.  For those that haven't been out there - directions are on the flyer (on the regional website).

I want to thank Pat for sending in the meeting minutes - twice.  I missed the meeting last month due to work commitments but when I opened the meeting minutes - I got deja vu.  Then I saw they were for February (or some such month).  Turns out Pat's cat was responsible.  I see Pat isn't running for secretary - so seriously, I want to thank her and her cat for being so prompt in sending in the minutes this year.

Remember - dues will be due in October - so if you are going to miss that meeting make sure to get your dues renewal to Cathy S.  In the governor's column I'll have some further info on this.

Thanks to John M and Nancy K for the great event on Saturday.

I hope you all had a great weekend and were able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather.  Fall in Colorado - you gotta love it.

Nancy B.

DtRC Hosted Events - Upcoming

DtRC at CSP II (Colorado State Patrol Track) - September 28

As I mentioned in the Editor's column, several can't be there to help this year - so John and Frank can really use your help.  Give them a shout if you can help so they can let you know what they need help with and what time to be there.  Catch them at the meeting or before if you won't be at the meeting.

Upcoming Other Events
Remember a current schedule of NCCC events, access to flyers, event results and regional points standings can be found at www.rmrnccc.org .

OK - the flyers are on the website - but starting with our AutoCross - there are 3 weekends of Autocross - two weekends of track racing at CSP (what an absolute blast - check your tires and brakes before you go up).  Then a fantastic time of year to head over to the other side of the Divide to Fruita.  It is usually a gorgeous, golden aspen filled drive that time of year.  Follow that up with the ever popular All Hallows Rally & Show (which got snowed out last year - bad luck for them last year- but hey - they didn't have to do a whole new route this year).  Then November brings the CSCC Sno Flakes Rally, and the competition/fun season is capped off by our SnoBig Deal Fundraiser Car Shows, and DCAs fun rallyes - the weekend before Thanksgiving.  So mark your calendars and go have some fun.

Remember to check out the region website - www.rmrnccc.org for all the upcoming regional events. Going out of state - check out www.corvettesnccc.org , scroll down almost to the bottom, click on the region you will be visiting, and see what is happening.

Past Events

It was a very quiet month.  The NCCC region event results and standings are up to date on the regional website - no events are outstanding.  A big high five to Dave & Wanda C. for representing us at Casper.  What a busy weekend they had - they both participated and did great in all 5 events (2 autocrosses,  2 chance rallyes, and a pc show).

DtRC Club Bone-Head award
I still haven't heard if this had been officially awarded yet - but will this spot in the newsletter as a placeholder.

Committee Updates

Social Committee

Parade and Car Show - October 4th - Golden/Thornton

OK - Bill & Pat have been busy organizing.  They'll let you know times and exact places via email.  You should have received their emails on this - but I wanted to remind you in the newsletter.

Bill has arranged for the Vettes to show up the Vipers this year at the School of Mines Homecoming Parade in Golden.  And to me - it looked like he promised Krispy Kreme (you did put it in writing Bill).  Then after a quick lunch it is over to the Elm's Haven Nursing Home in Thornton (which I am assuming is the one that Pat does some volunteer work at), to make the day a little brighter for their residents.  Your editor's bit of advice - don't let Bill lead the way from Golden to Thornton - unless the backup plan is to have a show in Fairplay.  What a great way for the club to get out and spread their love of Corvettes to many many people in the community.  Good job all.

Mystery Meal - September 20th - Clive Cussler Museum

A huge thanks to John M and Nancy K for organizing this.  What with friends and family - there were just over 50 people, with 32 at lunch afterwards.  Also thanks to them for coming back towards Broomfield for lunch.  My favorite things on the old cars are still the details.  The hood ornaments/radiator caps.  The taillights, grills, bumpers, etc.  My favorite hood ornament is the diving frog.  If any of you haven't read any of Clive Cussler's books, and you like to read adventure - you should try them - they are very good.  The Dirk Pitt series is the original series.  The  first book of his I read was Inca Gold.  It is a good one if you are looking to try a new author.

Heading south and want to check out a couple of other car museums.  Of course Vegas has the one at the Imperial Palace (grab one of the tourist info books for a free coupon).  The Riverside Casino in Laughlin also has a very nice one - free - and no coupon required.

Christmas Party - December 5th
Mary Kay has managed to reserve the back room at The Old Neighborhood for 7:00 - December 5th.  Mary Kay and Deana are now taking "reservations".  So let them know if you will be there.

Governor’s Report -
By Nancy B.

Lot's going on here (there was a Governor's meeting this weekend, so maybe I'll even manage to remember to share it with you).

  • Nominations are open for Regional Officers.  While all officer positions are open for nominations, the position of Treasurer currently has nobody on the ballet.  The nominations will close this coming Sunday Sept. 28th, at which time the ballots will be printed.  If you are interested in running for any of the positions let myself and John M. know.
  • Dues - are due from me to the RMD by Nov. 17th.  So our Membership Committee (Cathy S) will be collection dues - due to her by November 1st.  The most convenient place to submit your dues is probably at the October meeting.  But feel free to mail them to her also  (drop an email and let her know you sent them).  Reminder emails will be coming out from her or me.  As Governor - I have to tally everything and get the correct DtRC checks sent to NCCC.  Make your checks out to DtRC.
  • NCCC Pins - will NOT be included as part of your membership this year.  You will get a 50th patch, and a luggage tag that will look like your membership card.  If you do want pins - the process will be that I will have an order form, they will be $3 each - and must be ordered together as a club.  I'll have more info on that and send out email when I get the club renewal packet from NCCC.
  • The governors voted to approve the convention fund distribution plan.  Basically, the regions share of convention profits (should there be any) will be divided up among the clubs based on how many workers/chairs each club had participate in the event.  If you would like the detail I can have John M. send you the approved plan.
  • Convention T-Shirts are available for sale.  They have ordered in a bunch of white ones for now.  At convention (and available to order on-line eventually) there will be all types of merchandise and colors - but for now - there are white ones available.  John M. will have a selection of sizes at the meeting Thursday.  Cost is $15 each.  Other sizes are available, we just picked out a small selection to bring to the meeting.  See John and the meeting and if you need a different size - let him know.
  • Other convention info - as of now - it looks like PPIR will be the site for both the high and low speed autocrosses.  So that will be cool.  Lot's easier than dealing with the World Arena lot, or going down to Pueblo.  Of course - this changed from our meeting in May - so nothings final yet - but that is the current plan.

50th Annual National Convention - August 7 - 14, 2009  - RMR - Colorado Springs, CO.

And a permanent reminder for the next year’s worth of newsletters.  Don't forget as you start making 2009 vacation plans - mark the following in your book. DtRC will be hosting the low-speed autocross at World Arena.  I don't have the dates handy, but can get them if you need them this soon.  Even if you can't join us for the whole week, we'll need lots of help the days of our events (it is over two days I believe).

For anyone that wants to get involved in the planning - even as a helper vs. a committee head - I believe the are looking for people.  For our club members - if you can help over the next year with some of the duties - please contact John M.

NCCC RMR Events
Flyers for this falls events are appearing weekly on the regional website - www.rmrnccc.org - a copy of that calendar as it stands today is at the end of this newsletter.  For Flyer info and to get the latest and greatest calendar info - check back on the regional website often.

John didn't drop anything my way this month.  I do know they've drawn the winner for a couple of raffles this month.  So there are at least a couple very happy people out there.
