Miscellaneous ramblings from the President

Greetings!

Well, the Corvette season is nearing its end for 2012. What a great season it was. We had several new members join us and enjoyed the company of some past members. Once again, DTRC hosted some of the best events of the summer. I personally liked our mystery meals, I don’t think we have had such good ones in the past. Some were a few miles but I loved every minute of them.

We still have some of the season left! We have the picnic coming up, two homecoming parades, Christmas dinner and with any luck at all perhaps a corn maze again. If anyone has any ideas to help close the season I’m all for it.

I know we have two more meetings but I want to send a special thanks to all club officers, volunteers and members in general. A very special thanks to Jani for stepping up to help with the meeting minutes and other duties of the Secretary when Joan got too busy. All of you make being president a breeze! The cooperation and “let me help” attitude separates our members from all others.  I even had other club members comment on our willingness to help each other at our events.

That’s my two cents worth, I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the picnic and next meeting.

Bill

From the Editor:

Pagosa Springs was a great trip and the very best part was to visit where Wanda grew up. The entire area of Pagosa Springs is lush and relaxing. Bill and Cathy had a very lucrative weekend. Taking 3rd place at the show for a poker hand and a side bet with the club plus after teaching us a new poker game took most of the money ("Elimination"!). They both were kind enough to buy everyone a slice of cake and had to add more funds to buy. On the way back we took a side trip to the Sand Dunes and visited the Alligator Farm.

A group of you went to Grand Lake with good weather and alot of fun. Thank Mike Lindenberger for posting a few photos on our facebook page for enjoyment.

The Niwot car show was alot of fun and we would like to thank Muff & Renee for the invite. The men enjoyed looking at all of the cars while the women could shop downtown. Muff did take 1st place with the other car (fast and furious).

Thank you Mike and Jackie for a beautiful fall drive this past weekend in the mountains. They found some perfect spots to take us and the Aspen trees were all colors which made for some terrific photos.

Emich is looking for photos to print and place on their walls of our club. I sent an email to the General Manager but didn't get a response. Start gathering your special club photos now and Mike Davis will have more information at the next meeting.

Upcoming events and a calendar have been included in each newsletter. Just let me know if you have anything else to add to our list of ideas.

Our monthly snack list has also been added to the newsletter with each member's name that is bringing snacks this month.

The weather is still nice out so don't put your cars away for the winter yet. We have a picnic planned for this Saturday at the Burritt's home, the Niwot High School Prom Parade, and much more.

National Corvette Museum Report::

At the August meeting I was asked by the DtRC membership and officers if I would serve as your NCM Ambassador, and I will gladly do so!  As I also serve as Ambassador for the Colorado Springs Corvette Club, I discussed this with NCM personnel in late August when I attended their 18TH Anniversary celebration and learned it is permissible to serve more than one club, so upon submitting the application after our September meeting, I will become your Ambassador also.  I’m a Lifetime member of the museum, have been an Ambassador since 2010, and this year achieved Master Ambassador status.

While your previous Ambassador may have relayed duties of the Ambassador, I’d like to give you my perspective. The Ambassador isn’t just a salesman trying to sell raffle tickets for a new Corvette.  The Ambassador provides Corvette clubs and enthusiasts two-way communication with the NCM.  The Ambassador represents the museum by  promoting and soliciting support for the NCM through promotional activities and encouraging Corvette enthusiasts to join the museum.  Equally important, an Ambassador is the voice of the Corvette club, communicating ideas and suggestions to the NCM.  To qualify, an Ambassador must be a member of the NCM, and must earn points each year (July 1 - June 30) to maintain active status, submitting an annual worksheet detailing points accumulated from various activities outlined in the Ambassadors’ manual.

To be a successful Ambassador for DtRC, I need your support.  I plan to be active with DtRC and promote the NCM and DtRC.   I will communicate your concerns, ideas, and thoughts to the NCM, and promote the NCM by asking you about your membership status and renewal dates.  If you don’t want to be a member, I won’t nag you about it!  I’ll be passing along museum news in the monthly DtRC newsletter.  And if you want your ideas or concerns passed on to the NCM, just send me an email (bsqaured@q.com) or see me at the monthly meeting and I’ll convey these to the NCM contact.  If you choose to access the museum on-line for membership purchase or renewal, raffle tickets, walk-of-fame bricks, or insurance quotes, please reference my name and DtRC.

As a local fund raiser, Ambassadors are provided raffle tickets for new Corvettes.  I now have tickets for a 2013 Torch Red Coupe for $10 each, to be drawn January 31, 2013, available at the monthly meetings and any DtRC event I attend.  And I’ll continue to have tickets for future raffles.

For those of you who haven’t visited the NCM, it’s an experience to be enjoyed by all Corvette enthusiasts.  I encourage each one of you to visit the museum and become a member!
